2013 Sangiovese

Rich’s Little Vineyard and Vineyard del Sol

Rattlesnake Hills, Yakima Valley, Washington

Alc 13.1%

The Back Label:

When we have more Sangiovese than we have barrels, we keep it simple: tanks, a short production cycle, and in the bottle in under a year. The right grapes, cleverly handled, don't need years in the cellar to make you say "Yum!"

It's not 100%; we blend in a little Cabernet Sauvignon and a pinch of Lemberger to put a bit more meat on the bones. Is mo bettah!

We love to drink this as Lazy Sangria, mixing it half and half with lemon-lime soda over ice on a hot summer afternoon. It is also our wine to sip whilst nibbling pepperoni and picking dinner from the garden.

This wine has bright berry flavors and tiny hints of oak with very balanced acidity that pairs well with tomato-based dishes.

Our Estate vineyards are wholistically managed to create an optimal environment for vines. No insecticides or fungicides were sprayed on our vines in 2013.

And just a bit more information:

We grow Sangiovese as the base for our Róse and Paradisos Red. In most vintages we have more than we need for those and make a varietal Sangiovese. It's not 100%, we blended in about 9% Cabernet Sauvignon that put a bit more meat on the bones. Is mo bettah!

We keep it simple, no new barrels, short production cycle, in the bottle in just under a year. Great fruit, low production costs. Wine you can afford to drink instead of wish you could afford to drink.

We love to drink this as Lazy Sangria, half wine and half lemon-lime soda over ice on a hot summer afternoon. It is also my wine to sip whilst nibbling pepperoni and picking dinner from the garden. Good match for a box of pizza.

Grapes come from both our tiny vineyards, about 1,600 vines total. They are two and a half miles apart and very different in soil, aspect, trellis, and irrigation. Each has about 800 vines producing, but Rich's Little Vineyard produces 10 pounds per vine in good vintages to 15 pounds per vine in Vineyard del Sol.

Our goal is healthful, wholistic wines that taste really good. Why settle for less?

We look to earthworms, mushrooms, and wildflowers in the vineyard for indicators of health. We support diversity. Barn Owls and Kestrels are part of our crew; we don't pay them much, but do provide free housing.

The vines in Rich's Little Vineyard have not been sprayed since 2005. The Sangiovese in Vineyard del Sol was sprayed once in 2011 with stylet oil, an organic approved material, for control of Powdery Mildew.

2011 was considered the worst season for Powdery Mildew since 1995. We think the next time our improved canopy management will get us through without ag chemicals.
